Guatemala City versus Antigua

The last two times that I've lived in Guatemala for language school I lived in Antigua. This summer, I'm living in the capital city, Guatemala City. I could never have imagined the differences between the two.

Here are a few of them:

City:
Not a lot of tourist or Americans seen
Not very safe to walk around
A random glimpse at the volcanoes
Always waiting for clothes to line dry and then be ironed (may take a week)
Difficult to connect with people due to the size of the city and transportation
Huge - the history is hidden somewhere here

Antigua:
Tourist around every corner
Walking everywhere
Beautiful scenery
Access to luxeries like laundry where they can put your clothes in a dryer instead of on the line Easy to meet friends for coffee Small and quaint with lots of history and ruins of times past

Regardless of the differences, the people are the what is most important and they are wonderful here just as they were wonderful in Antigua. It has been a bit of a shock to my system to be living in the city and some of the differences that I never would have imaged would make this such a different experience. I'm trying to learn through these experiences what it is that God is trying to teach me so even the difficulties become worthwhile!
